Report on the maximum waiting time for cancer treatments

12-12-2007

Report no. 5/2007

This report deals with the efforts made by the Ministry of Interior and Health, including the National Board of Health, in relation to the agreement on maximum waiting time for cancer treatment.

In November 2006, it became known that the National Board of Health had failed to consider a number of patient's case reports which had been submitted to the Board because the patients had not been offered treatment within the maximum waiting limit. Subsequently, the Public Accounts Committee asked Rigsrevisionen to examine the area more closely.

Rigsrevisionen has in its report reviewed the Ministry of the Interior and Health's monitoring of the implementation of the agreement on the maximum wait. Rigsrevisionen has also examined whether patients with life-threatening cancer diseases are treated within the maximum waiting time limit. Finally, Rigsrevisionen has reviewed whether patients - when the maximum wait cannot be observed - receive the offers stipulated in the agreement.
