Rigsrevisionen audits the government accounts every year. The audit of the financial statements of the departments, agencies and other public bodies provides the Danish parliament with reasonable assurance that the transactions included in the financial statements are in accordance with relevant appropriation acts and government accounting regulations.
We also audit the financial statements of government-owned commercial companies such as DSB (Danish national railway company) and DR (national broadcasting company).
It is our responsibility and objective to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the government accounts as a whole are free from material misstatement or affected by material variances to appropriations, and to issue an auditor's report that includes an opinion.
The annual financial audit is mainly performed as financial audit, but often includes elements of compliance audit and sometimes also performance audit.
